Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire

LIAR!!!

Seriously, this thing lies.

I’ve been doing a personal challenge for the second half of March and one of the things I’ve been doing is weighing myself every day.

As I’ve stated before, my weight is really just a number to me.  In this instance I’m using it as a marker for my progress.  

Now, I know that your weight fluctuates throughout the day and I also know that it’s not uncommon to have it go up or down a few pounds over the course of a few days.  Not a huge deal.  I don’t  get stressed about it. 

However, I don’t think it should go down by two pounds within a matter of seconds.

I have a digital scale because I assumed it would be more accurate. 

Meh.

I hopped on this morning:  157.5

That’s two pounds higher than yesterday..  so for kicks I hopped off and back on again.

huh.. so I got off and hopped on again.

um… oookay.

I tried very hard to position my feet in the same place and to keep my center of gravity squarely in the middle.   The battery is only a month old and the scale is only a year old.

I don’t want to invest in a more expensive scale.. so maybe an analog scale? or maybe I should just ignore the weight and start tracking my measurements?  Measurements are kind of a pain in the butt.. plus that measuring tape?  It’s cold.

If you were me, what would you do?

  1. I know folks to hop on and off the scale three of four times, maybe half a minute apart, and just take the average. I weigh myself once a week and assume the scale is lying to me. If my clothes fit… good. If they start getting too big… even better. 🙂

    • I suppose I could do that average thing.. but I can see how that would feed into my OCD.. perhaps your once a week thing is a better idea.

  2. Or weigh yourself every day, but take a weekly average… whatever doesn’t feed the OCD. I make the mistake of weighing myself Monday mornings, and I’m not all that attentive to my diet on the weekends. Perhaps the average thing would work for me, too. Oh, except then I’d have to remember to make weighing myself part of the morning routine. Meh.

    • What I want to know is.. why is my OCD never about cleaning?

      • Sadly, much of my OCD is about cleaning, but because of the fibro, I can’t actually DO the cleaning that needs to be done. And I live with slobs. So I cry a lot.

        Also, I have to put my scale in a PRECISE location for it to register correctly. I pull out the Spousal Unit’s diving weights every time I change the battery to make sure it’s calibrated. Then I note that the scale is exactly 7 tiles to the right of the toilet and 8 tiles away from the wall. Then my OCD kicks in and I freak anytime it gets moved. I understand there are drugs for this. I don’t care. 🙂

  3. First off, your scale is a stupid head. Plain and simple.

    I always weigh my self totally nekid first thing in the morning. But I always get the same result. I have a digital scale and it only cost about $12. I just went and checked and I weighed myself 4 times and got the same number four times.

    Methinks you might need to go to Walgreens. Did you try changing the battery? Are you weighing on a hard surface (this makes a surprisingly huge difference)? I don’t know what else to tell you. Sorry!

    • Yup.. I do the same thing.. on a hard surface.. and this battery is only a month old.. if that! It was a cheapo scale from Walmart.. I think I paid $20 though!

  4. About a year ago, my scale annoyed me – a lot. I accidentally got it wet one day while washing the bathtub.

    It doesn’t annoy me anymore.
