Good job, me

I have been very unhappy with the state of the blog .. it’s 25 years old and the database was an ungodly mess… rather than sitting for hours and dropping tables, I decided to just blow it all away and start with a stock block theme from 2023. I had farted around with PageLayer and all other things and it was a nightmare to be honest.

Right, so I set up a staging site, blew away the database, imported the content thanks to a super handy plug in, fixed it just enough so that I wasn’t annoyed as fuck when I opened the dashboard.. and…

accidently wiped out a post and some comments in overwriting anything.. so that post about meal prepping and stuff..

gone.

And honestly I don’t care.

In other news, I’m going to try to eat down the pantry and freezer again. I tried this last year and got pretty far but then I ordered a bunch of meat and fell into a pretty deep depression with job stress and grief etc so I started hording food and ordering premade meals.

Just to reiterate one thing I did say in that post was that I found a lot of people who suddenly found themselves in a one living human household really struggled with was feeding themselves and I will tell you I feel like I’ve turned a corner on that.

Today I had a combination of pantry, freezer and fresh foods. I also did not take a lot of photos because.. I didn’t.

Breakfast was an Aldi’s crab cake (really a crab and fish cake) with a fried egg that I overcooked (dammit), a small avocado and a few small tomatoes.

Lunch, well I got a little wild. I sliced up a cucumber, chopped up some seasnacks, threw 1/2 cup of sushi rice in the Instant Pot (and did not wash or soak it (quelle horreur!) and pan fried some Korean BBQ spam I had sliced and stashed in the freezer. Topped with avocado (yes another one shut up) and some Kewpie Mayo which does not look as fancy as what you see on the internets socials things

Clearly, I’m no influencer.

Dinner was two fat ass slices of this pizza I picked up from the frozen section and that was 800 calories right there so that was the end of the food for me today.

It was absolutely incredible and I had every intention of eating one slice and freezing the rest but that is totally not going to happen.

But that’s my pro tip anyway for feeding one person. The freezer is your absolute best friend.

So, right, October 1st I’m going to limit my grocery shopping to fresh veggies and fruit and dairy as needed .. and maybe some zero calorie soda. I am an absolute sucker for Dr. Pepper Strawberries and Cream Zero.

Oh and I am going to get CookUnity meals delivered twice a week. I recognize that is outside of the “where is the bottom of the chest freezer” plan but I still only have the mental capacity to cook “most” of the time so this will be 4 lunches (or sometimes 6 as I can usually split a few in half) that I don’t have to think about.

I’ll be going on my Annual Pilgrimage to the Land of the Mouse in October so that week does not count. Also, I’m taking the train instead of flying because I absolutely hate flying and LB had always wanted to try the train down to FL so I’m doing it.

Right that’s enough blathering on. It’s bedtime and I have a decent book to fall into.
